The dining room, kitchen, bathroom, office, bedrooms and wardrobes. We are not turtles so our choice is the Swiss knife: a motorhome. Yes, but which one?
Let's see what we demand.
- Deus permanent beds (one large, two small)
- Large refrigerator
- Hotte for the kitchen
- Large pool of clean water
- Garage soute
- Double floor
- Vibration-resistant berries
- Lanterns spread over all different living areas
- Two photovoltaic panels and a second slow-discharge battery for better electrical battery life (the second battery only recharges with the photovoltaic panel dedicated to it)
- Two 12v / 220 converters (a 300w near sinus / 1000w crest and a pure sinus 1000w / 2000w crest) ) The pure sinus provided a regular energy indispensable for electronic devices like plasma television, computer, medical equipment ... In both cases, never take a converter with a ridge less than 1000w because you may not have enough power to start the cinvertur to launch the device connected to it (I am thinking especially of breathing aids). If you only take a converter, opt for a pure sinus.
For the camper van, we made a reasonable choice. A 2006 Autostar Auros 17 with 32,000km on the clock. A new campervan greatly increases the value of the vehicle for the customs pass book.
Today, all mechanics are relatively reliable. In addition, Ford is well distributed. Twin-wheeled propulsion makes it easier to get out of road pitfalls.
We acquired a quad bike to visit areas that are more difficult to reach, such as deserts and mountain trails. The trailer serves as a mobile garage.
We made some changes after our trips to Morocco.
The air cooler on the roof is removed because it increases parasitic air intakes and its effectiveness is not conclusive. In its place, we put down a lantern for a gain of natural light. Surprisingly, the campervan has gained in road comfort. It lies less in the corners.
The absorbt trimix refrigerator is unreliable. It does not stabilize the temperature on difficult roads and we lose too much fresh produce. This absortion refrigerator is replaced by a compression refrigerator. Test done, it's the right choice. Very little noisy contrary to what is announced by the manufacturers of motorhomes. It works perfectly even on the slopes and mountain crossings. Another advantage is that the absortion system saves space for the same capacity. We took the opportunity to install a gas furnace in the freed space. The fixed bottom of this space is replaced by a small airtight door. This small door allows us to access electrical installations without having to disassemble them (additional fridge fan, fan regulator, sockets and switches).
We glued the 220v socket, which was difficult to access, on the back of the refrigerator and in front of the low outside grille of the camper. It can be easily usable from the outside (taken in a waterproof case just in case)
In addition, we installed a third photovoltaic panel connected to a third slow discharge battery dedicated solely to the power of the compression refrigerator. This circuit is completely independent. The battery does not recharge while driving but only when there is light. We don't see any malfunction of the refrigerator even at night.
